Unfortunately, nobody can get through life without conflict. And, due to the range of people and situations we come across, conflict in local authorities can be particularly complex. Community expectations cause frustration, departments clash over priorities, and differing political interests lead to confrontation.
APSE’s course in Managing Conflict in Local Authorities looks at identifying and resolving conflict effectively while keeping drama to a minimum. We look at different styles of conflict and their implications, appropriate communication for different situations, how to approach and carry out difficult conversations, and even how to predict and prevent conflict before it escalates.
Learning Outcomes:
- Understand the nature of conflict in a local authority setting
- Apply strategies for preventing, managing and resolving conflict
- Develop effective negotiation skills for achieving favourable outcomes
- Navigate difficult conversations with confidence and professionalism
- Understand the importance of collaboration and consensus-building in negotiations
Who should attend the course?
This course will benefit anyone who manages conflict as part of their role.
