Sheffield Council has successfully reduced costs associated with transporting SEND pupils to school.
The council was expected to surpass their SEND transport budget by £7m, prompting a review of their SEND school transport support.
The council has cut more than 300 routes where taxis were transporting just one student to school, as well as introducing shared travel options for students. As a result, Sheffield Council has been able to reduce spending on SEND school travel by £5.6bn.
Sheffield's vehicle fleet has also been expanded to maximise in house travel options, as well as the introduction of Independent Travel Training for young people.
