I'm Seb Frost, Operations Manager for Waste & Street Scene Services at Slough Borough Council. I oversee frontline services including waste collection, street cleansing, the household waste recycling centre, and wider service transformation projects aimed at improving performance, efficiency, and resident satisfaction.
The ability to make a tangible difference to people's daily lives. Local government services are highly visible, and the impact - whether it's cleaner streets or improved recycling - is immediate and meaningful.
Balancing rising service expectations with financial pressures, while driving behavioural change around waste and environmental responsibility. Delivering transformation at pace without disrupting essential frontline services is also a key challenge.
The opportunity to share best practice, benchmark performance, and connect with peers facing similar challenges. APSE provide practical insight that supports continuous improvement and innovation across services.
Slough is incredibly diverse and fast-paced, which makes the role both challenging and rewarding (similar to a London borough in many respects). There's a real opportunity to deliver visible improvements, strengthen partnerships, and plenty of opportunity to increase recycling rates across the borough.
