Derry City and Strabane District Council announces new cemetery for Derry City

Derry City and Strabane District Council has announced that the new municipal cemetery at Mullenan Road is now fully operational and open for burials.

The cemetery has received a significant investment of £5.2 million, providing a modern, peaceful and accessible space for families to remember their loved ones. As the existing City Cemetery at Lone Moor Road approaches full capacity, Mullenan Cemetery will now become the primary burial site serving the Derry City area for many years to come.

Mullenan Cemetery has been designed with dignity, accessibility and long-term sustainability in mind. It offers a modern, inclusive facility within a thoughtfully landscaped and tranquil setting. The site has been developed as a seamless lawn cemetery, maintaining a clean and serene appearance throughout.

With 3,500 burial plots, Mullenan City Cemetery offers 20 years of capacity with scope for future expansion.

The cemetery has been designed to reflect the needs of a diverse community, with facilities ranging from dedicated space for Islamic burials and a Garden of Angels to ashes plots and a Columbarium.
