Warwickshire County Council expands EV charging infrastructure across the county

Warwickshire County Council expands EV charging infrastructure across the county

Warwickshire County Council has secured a major investment to expand EV charging infrastructure across the county.

Working in partnership with local authorities across the midlands, including Rutland Council, Warwickshire has secured a contract through the Department for Transport's Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) Fund, which aims to accelerate the rollout of EV charging infrastructure across the UK.

This will provide £3.295 million in government funding, alongside private investment, to deliver new charging infrastructure across Warwickshire.

At least 73 rapid charge point sockets are planned to be installed, alongside 2,100 additional lower-powered charge point sockets. The expanded network will give EV users access to both rapid and on-street charging options.

Councillor Stephen Shaw, Warwickshire County Council's Portfolio Holder for Transport and Planning, said: “It’s fantastic news that we now have partners in place to deliver these electric vehicle charge points across the county offering our residents, and those working or traveling through the county, greater choice and cheaper prices. We are committed to providing our residents with a modern and resilient transport infrastructure. Enhancing options for EV charging for those with EVs, or those thinking of switching to one, is a major contributing factor to that.”

This project forms part of wider efforts to strengthen EV charging infrastructure as the transition to electric vehicles continues.
