Northumberland County Council has highlighted the impact of its Environment and Climate Fund, which is helping community groups deliver projects focused on renewable energy generation, energy efficiency and wider sustainability across the county.
Nine organisations who were awarded the funding recently gathered at County Hall in Morpeth to share progress on their projects. Initiatives included renewable energy generation, building retrofit measures to improve energy efficiency, waste reduction schemes and environmental education programmes.
Councillor John Riddle, Cabinet Member for Environment, Rural and Farming, said: “It is aways fantastic to see how our annual Environment and Climate fund is supporting sustainable grassroots projects across the county. [...] I would like to thank all of those involved in their efforts in helping maintain and enhance our clean air and green spaces, reduce waste, improve energy efficiency and support nature recovery across the county for everyone to enjoy.”
The council provides £50,000 annually through the Environment and Climate Fund, with eligible groups able to apply for grants of up to £5,000 to support sustainable improvements. The initiative demonstrates how local authorities can support community-led action on energy efficiency, carbon reduction and climate resilience through targeted local funding.
