The new Landmark II bus shelters will replace existing ones throughout the town, providing a range of environmental benefits alongside improved passenger amenities. The shelters feature living roofs designed to support pollinators, which will help improve biodiversity, absorb rainwater and reduce surface water runoff, contributing to wider climate resilience objectives.
As part of the installation, the shelters will incorporate low-energy LED lighting to improve passenger safety and visibility. Sensor technology will ensure lighting is only used when required, helping to reduce both energy consumption and light pollution. The shelters have also been designed to be fully recyclable and capable of accommodating future technological upgrades.
Councillor Clive English, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Environmental Services and Enforcement, said: “These new shelters represent a significant investment in Maidstone’s public transport infrastructure and our commitment to creating a greener, more sustainable borough.”
