Dorset Council has launched a new solar panel and battery storage programme aimed at helping residents generate their own renewable electricity, reduce reliance on the grid and support the transition to a lower-carbon energy system.
The initiative forms part of the council’s wider efforts to support renewable energy generation and improve energy efficient across Dorset, building on the success of last year’s scheme, which helped more than 200 households reduce their energy bills.
With many households continuing the face energy cost pressures, the scheme offers residents the opportunity to explore renewable energy options and understand whether solar panels and battery storage could benefit their property.
The pairing of solar panels and battery storage systems to hold the energy and use it when needed could help households increase their use of self-generated electricity, lower demand on the grid and support the transition to a more sustainable energy system.
The scheme is open to homeowners and businesses across Dorset and is designed to provide information on the costs, benefits and suitability of solar and battery systems for different properties.
The initiative supports Dorset Council’s wider ambitions to respond to the climate and nature crisis, increase the use of renewable energy and help create more sustainable communities across the country.
