Cheltenham Borough Council has opened a new ultra-fast charging hub at St James’ Street Car Park, expanding charging provision for residents and visitors across the town.
The new charging site has been introduced in response to growing demand for EV charging infrastructure across the town and is expected to help reduce waiting times while improving access to reliable, high-speed charging facilities.
The chargers are powered by 100% renewable energy, supporting the transition to lower-carbon transport.
Alongside supporting local EV users, the council believes the new hub will provide a convenient charging option for visitors travelling to Cheltenham, helping support the local economy by encouraging people to visit the town centre whilst waiting for their vehicle to charge.
Cllr Richard Pineger, cabinet member for climate emergency, said: “Most of us will be driving electric vehicles in the years ahead, so it’s important that we have a range of ways to charge them wherever we are. This new hub, delivered at no cost to the taxpayer, provides ultra-rapid charging for people who need to get back on the road quickly.”
