Cardiff Council launches pilot home energy improvement scheme

Cardiff Council and the Welsh Government have announced a new scheme aimed at improving the energy efficiency of homes and helping residents reduce energy bills.  

The Tai Clyd Caerdydd scheme will launch on 1 September 2026 and will provide households in Fairwater, Adamsdown and parts of Slott with free access to trusted energy advisers, whole-house assessments and support to identify suitable improvements, including insulation, heating upgrades and renewable energy technologies. 

The initiative will also connect residents with Welsh Government-approved installers and help eligible households access funding for home improvements, including support for those experiencing fuel poverty. The pilot is open to homeowners and landlords, and will run until September 2027. 

Cardiff Council's Cabinet Member for Climate Change, Strategic Planning and Transport, Cllr Dan De'Ath, said: "This is about helping people take control of their energy use and reduce their bills at a time when the cost of living remains a real concern. [...] By supporting residents through the Tai Clyd Caerdydd, we won't just be making residents homes more comfortable to live in and reducing fuel poverty, we'll also be cutting carbon emissions, improving people's health and building a stronger local green economy'.  

The Welsh Government have said lessons learned from the pilot could help inform similar schemes across Wales in the future.
