Bedford Borough Council expands EV charging network

Bedford Borough Council expands EV charging network

Bedford Borough Council is installing new charging points across the borough to support residents' transition to electric vehicles.

The EV charging points will be installed in areas where residents do not have access to off-street parking, with an initial 260 charging sockets being installed across Bedford, Kempson and surrounding villages.

The project is being supported through the Government's Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) Fund, which provides funding to local authorities to expand public EV charging networks and improve access to charging facilities.

The investment forms part of wider plans to increase charging availability across the borough, with a further 900 sockets proposed to help meet growing demand as EV ownership continues to rise.

By expanding access to convenient charging facilities, Bedford Borough Council aims to make it easier for residents to switch to electric vehicles, supporting both local decarbonisation ambitions and the wider transition to cleaner transport.
