If so, this essential training will equip you with the insights and arguments to propel transformative decision-making which safeguard future generations.
This is the most important issue of our time. The decisions made now will have a lasting impact. As a key decision-maker, or budget holder, it’s more than likely that you will be facing the significant challenges of simultaneously preventing and adapting to the impacts of Climate Change. This course will give you the platform to discuss these important issues with your peers and shape your council’s approach.
Who Will Benefit?
Senior leaders and managers in local authorities who have strategic, budgetary or operational responsibility for delivery. You don’t need to be a Climate Change lead or have specific responsibility for climate strategy.
This course will be delivered online via Microsoft Teams. To access it, you will need a WiFi connection or mobile data hotspot. Downloading Microsoft Teams to your laptop, desktop or smart device will give a better performance and greater functionality throughout the day. This highly interactive training includes a mixture of presentations, video conferencing, group work, games, quizzes and video.

By the end of this session, you will have:
- Gained an understanding of the basic science of climate change and how climate change will affect your Local Authority
- Explored how leaders can provide leadership in the climate emergency
- Discussed how climate change can be integrated into decision-making
- Learned about climate action initiatives in other Local Authorities
- Explored levers of influence to reduce your local authority's carbon footprint
Carbon Literacy Award
This course is run online as a full day or as two half-days. An additional two hours of individual work is required to achieve the Carbon Literacy Award. This will include a video link prior to the training and a self-assessment of learning, which is submitted to the Carbon Literacy Project.
