This course is designed to equip Elected Members with the skills needed to foster a culture of effective scrutiny which helps to manage risk. By exploring a formula for effective scrutiny and decision-making, Elected Members will have the opportunity to utilise questioning and evaluative techniques leading to effective stewardship and leadership.
This course will use examples and case studies to illustrate the role and impact of effective scrutiny in managing risks and navigating processes which contribute to robust governance.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the session, you will have:
- Appraised local authority approaches to scrutiny
- Evaluated the role of elected members in effective governance, challenge and performance
- Assessed your authority’s approach to risk, risk management and risk monitoring
- Understand how risks are identified and how to distinguish between them
- Devised a formula for effective scrutiny
- Practiced effective questioning and evaluative techniques
Delivered on Microsoft Teams, this is an intensive inter-active day that uses a variety of training methods including individual and group exercises.
