APSE hosted two excellent fringe events at labour party conference. The first on 'Governance, neighbourhoods and service delivery' with John Healey, Communities Minister, Dave Prentis, General Secretary of UNISON, Dr Steven Griggs of INLOGOV and Mark Bramah of APSE heard the Minister state 'There is a special public service ethos - those who are delivering services to the public believe in what they are doing. If we loose that, it will be impossible to recreate.” Click here to read the full press release.

APSE second fringe event on 'Quality, affordable housing for all' heard contributions from Jack Dromey, Assistant General Secretary of UNITE (T&G) and Heather Wakefield, Head of Local Government for UNISON who called on the Government to address the pressing need for councils to be at the fore in delivery sustainable quality affordable housing. stating 'This is not just an issue about housing; it is about giving our citizens the best that we can offer. Decent affordable housing, safe neighbourhoods and a solid environment in which all citizens and especially children are able to thrive'. Councillor Bill Dixon, Executive Member for Housing on Darlington Council told delegates that ' We have the opportunity to get social housing right this time. If we waste the opportunity to get the Housing Bill right we risk the loss of municipal housing as a major public service, provided by councils'
