The Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) is a dynamic local authority association promoting excellence in the delivery of local services. APSE provides a range of services to member councils across the UK including advice and research; consultancy; benchmarking; and training.
A vacancy has arisen for the post of Principal Advisor based at the Association’s Hamilton office. APSE is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified person to work as part of a team in order to respond to an increasing demand for services. The Principal Advisor will provide a broad range of advisory, research and information services to APSE committees and member authorities, as well as having responsibility for coordinating and developing the Association’s work within wider defined areas / regions.The post holder will also take responsibility for managing the existing support team based in Hamilton. The successful applicant will have experience of working within local government and/or public service provision and will be able to interpret and develop policy initiatives. The ability to present information clearly, orally and in writing is also essential. All applicants should be educated to graduate level or equivalent. The post is based in Hamilton, although a significant amount of travelling will be involved throughout the United Kingdom.

This is an exciting opportunity assisting in the provision and development of our award winning, quality, front line Recycling and Waste service. Working within the Recycling Strategy Section, the postholder will be dealing with members of the public both face-to-face through home visits and promotional events and over the telephone. Experience in Waste and Recycling, a high profile front line service to residents, or customer services is essential.
You will have excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to deal effectively and calmly with residents and other customers of the Council. You must be IT literate, accurate and have the ability to work under pressure as part of a team. You must also be prepared to work outside normal office hours on occasions.
