How does interim management differ from consultancy?
An interim manager will work as part of the Council and will take responsibility for a range of projects as opposed to being commissioned for one consultancy project. This usually lasts for between three to six months. Undertaking a range of projects concurrently affords the opportunity for the interim to identify potential synergies between projects that provide added value to the client. Furthermore, this can prove cost effective through the good use of time management.
The interim manager will work as part of the Council team, and will typically take responsibility for managing and mentoring staff as well as efficiency savings and service improvement.
APSE has created a downloadable guide to interim management in local government.
