Diagnostic workshops
Diagnostic workshops have been one way in which the consultancy has successfully been able to work with councils to effectively identify ways in which to improve processes within services, identify benefits of holistic working and realise efficiency savings. Workshops can either be part of a single service review, part of a wider cross cutting review or combined with a high level diagnostic report.
A diagnostic workshop is undertaken using the principles of lean thinking that APSE has adapted for the local authorities and will also seek to raise awareness of the part that council services play in the delivery of a wider, complex social policy.
We find workshops are most successful with the operational management team. APSE will work with the team to examine the service through a series of tools. In the afternoon the focus of the workshop is around process mapping and looks to identify areas where potential efficiencies can be realised.
The workshop will run for one day and be facilitated by two consultants. All of our consultants are experienced local government practitioners and will have a good understanding of the service area. A follow up high level report will be produced following on from the workshop identifying key areas for change or improvement and highlight potential savings.
An initial diagnostic workshop and follow up high level report involve around 6 days consultancy input and cost around £3,600.
