Russell McCutcheon, Head of Commercial Services, North Ayrshire Council

North Ayrshire Council identified a training need for front line supervisors following analysis of feedback from a staff survey.  The Council engaged with APSE to deliver a bespoke training solution targeted at supervisors in Building Services, Facilities Management, Streetscene Operations, Waste Operations and Roads operational staff.

The first of several training sessions took place in May 2017 with follow up sessions to take place in the Autumn. The sessions allowed for delegates from the various operational areas to attend on the one day and share approaches and learning. The feedback was very positive even from some employees who had previously attended similar training. Some comments from staff were as follows:

'Enjoyed the Course very informative' - Site Facilities Officer

'Well worth it' - Roads Foreman

'I found the training very helpful' - Operational Supervisor - Building Services

'All relevant to my job role' - Streetscene Foreman

'Found the course relevant to my job, excellent tutor and open to more training' - Waste Foreman

North Ayrshire Council intends to run up to four more courses providing training for up to eighty employees who supervise operational staff at a first line level. This is intended to develop that grouping of employees to provide them with the right skills for their role and deliver consistent supervision for operational staff a a first line level. "
