Trading and charging

Trading and charging allows local authorities to bring in additional sources of income through trading their services or charging for services to be delivered to other organisations or individuals whether private or public. As local authorities throughout the UK strive to carry on delivering services with much reduced budgets many have sought to generate income through their frontline services. This is not about increasing fees or charges but looking at what innovative services could be developed to local communities or businesses; providing valuable additional local services whilst generating income to the local council to offset some of the budget cuts.

Promoting excellence in public services

APSE (Association for Public Service Excellence) is a not for profit local government body working with over 300 councils throughout the UK. Promoting excellence in public services, APSE is the foremost specialist in local authority frontline services, hosting a network for frontline service providers in areas such as waste and refuse collection, parks and environmental services, cemeteries and crematorium, environmental health, leisure, school meals, cleaning, housing and building maintenance.
