Sports and Leisure Management

Sports and Leisure Management

This group focuses mainly on the effective management of sports centres and swimming pools with occasional sessions on spas and dry-ski slopes. Increasing visitor numbers is a continuing theme of the group, along with maximisation of secondary spend through promotion and vending.  Sports development is assessed in the context of improved accessibility from targeted groups and links to health improvement are highlighted. Staffing issues including safeguarding, innovations in equipment and consumer trends in leisure are covered. The emerging themes of commissioning and links with health and wellbeing boards are explored as legislation and guidance emerges from central government.

The APSE Principal Advisor for this group is Rob Bailey. The chair of this group is Cllr Paul Gittings of Reading Borough Council.
