The context for housing construction and building maintenance services continues to develop and change at a fast pace. APSE’s 2017 joint publication with the TCPA “Building homes, creating communities: Ensuring councils provide innovative solutions to meeting housing need” looks at some of the challenges facing local authorities. As well as this, local authorities continue to face ongoing budget pressures which are making the challenges even more difficult to overcome. The seminar will enable Chief Executives, Directors, Heads of Service, Managers and Elected Members with responsibility for these and related services to further keep up to date with developments as well as discuss and debate these ongoing challenges with their peers.
Specifically, this conference will allow delegates to pose their questions on the challenges facing local authorities following the Grenfell Tragedy to an expert panel including Elected Members, Fire and Rescue representative, and a legal specialist, During the event, we will also look at how councils are “doing it for themselves” and helping to meet the current housing demand as well as looking at legal, governance and management in a housing context. There will also be a number of local authority innovations and best practice examples showcasing how local authorities are helping to future proof in-house services. We will have an apprentice focused session which will look at innovation in workforce development and building resilience in the workforce. Finally, there is a session focusing on how effective building maintenance can have a positive influence on the community.
The 2017 Apprentice of the Year Awards will also be held at the event.
